The Gryphon House Story

In 1971, Leah Curry-Rood and Larry Rood, guided by a respect for the work of teachers and parents of young children, started a company called Gryphon House by distributing books for children. At that time, it was not easy to find truly excellent children's books, and Leah provided the invaluable expertise of selecting the best books for young children.

In 1979, Gryphon House added the distribution of teacher resource books, and in 1981, Gryphon House became a publisher. We published two books that year. One of the original books, Bubbles, Rainbows, and Worms, is still in print. We currently have a backlist of 183 titles and an anticipated frontlist of 18 new titles that we will publish in 2009.
